about

Fnord Communications (Shame, The Rhythm Method) front the debut LP from idiosyncratic producer Boothroyd. Following on from his Idle Hours EP for Tri Angle, Pure Country is an eclectic, inventive album that sees the Mancunian following his nose. The title of the record is both a good signpost and a red herring. There are certainly country influences in Boothroyd’s sound, but rather than the heartbreaks and hoedowns of Dolly Parton the strain of country that he draws from is more the maximalist new school acts. Their emotive chord progressions and driving rhythms are bent to Boothroyd’s will, whether that be dreamy thousand-yard-stare ambiences or dinky, post-‘One Dance’ dancehall.
